Hi all,

A first time visitor and relative novice with DIY (more useful around a car!) ....I bought my first home recently:D but quickly returned to earth last week when my boiler packed up. :(

British Gas managed to get it running again by strongly recommended I replace it as age of boiler is approx 20 years.

My question is that I have seen a potential boiler but am not 100% sure if it is a direct replacement of my current boiler. Details are:

Current boiler : Thorn EMI Apollo 30/50B Boiler Type (Regular Non-Condensing. Power Rating from 8.8 kWh to 14.7 kWh)

Boiler to replace with: GLOWORM 15HXI Ultracom Open Vented (15kw)
Condensing Boiler.

From my limited knowledge I believe my current system is open vented (hot water cylinder upstairs) and expansion tank in loft, so this new boiler should be a direct replacement ?

Any approvals to the above or general advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the feedback in terms of quality.....

But I am assuming that in terms of compatability, it is a direct swap?

Regards,

What went wrong with the old boiler, i.e what did they replace?

The Apollo may be old, but there is very little to go wrong with it compared to the modern electronically controlled condensing boiler; and it will probably outlast any replacement.

The savings you make in reduced fuel bills will never cover the true cost of replacing the boiler; so the best advice is to retain the boiler until it cannot be economically repaired.
