We have a Baxi Barcelona - yeah I know but this one has actually been fairly reliable believe it or not (in the past it has only really failed just after major household names have serviced it). But these past few days it has started to sulk. It runs, then shuts down with the power light on and will not come back on for ages. There is no lock out. Power cycling makes no difference.
The delay (the sulk) is long enough for the rads to cool completely. Yet some days it runs all day just fine.
Checking the fault chart, this is most likely the thermistor or the control PCB. I changed the thermistor as it did read 'low' according to the spec - no difference. So I changed the control PCB fully expecting a non-sulking boiler. No difference! I swapped back to the old board.
Yesterday it ran from 5am to 11pm no fault. Today, it seemed to start ok for a few hours, then shut down and sat unlit for an hour, then lit but very little output, then finally ramped up to full power.
I can't think of anything else in the blessed thing that can cause it...
Oh, and please recommend decent wall-mounted condensing boilers - this thing is 15 years old and maybe it's just fed up. Some companies now seem to offer long guarantees, no idea if they are actually any use though. Our experience of those major household name service contracts is they never keep any of the parts, so it usually takes a week to get the part.
