OK, now their toys are back in their prams.
What wires went on which termianals on the old stat (you did make a note, didn't you?)
What happens if you join the red and yellow together in a terminal block (thus bypassing the stat). Does the boiler fire up? (I assume that you have got the programmer turned to CH on all the time?)
