Hi all. Got a large cloakroom & similar sized hallway against a single skin garage wall which gets really cold in winter so I want to bring it up to current insulation spec. as part of the main refurb I’m doing. First choice was to block it out with cavity bats but I could do without the extra bricklaying (too much else going on) & sacrificing the space this would take up so have been looking at 'modern' solutions. Have looked at some of the specialist insulation but am rather amazed at the cost of these for what they appear to be; it’s almost as much as my block work first choice! Can anyone advise a cost effective way of insulating to current standards?

Yep, I did consider that & although it could be acceptable in the hall, going ‘garage side’ would mean disturbing/re-routing all sorts of shelving, fittings, mains plumbing & the consumer unit located on that side of the wall! I also have a problem in the cloakroom due to the position of the W/C drain (no stack); it’s located too far away from the current wall to accommodate a modern W/C so I need to step inside with a false wall as don’t really want to start digging up the floor!
