That's exactly what will happen. They'll bid up the price to the point where UK based buyers won't pay. Like you said it goes to the highest bidder.

We have had to import gas since ~2000 and added lng ~2009.
Europe can also import some lng but it looks like their ability to handle it is being expanded.
