So my >10 year old cheap Champion lawnmower with a Briggs and Stratton 35 Classic engine was surging and running very rich. Last weekend it sooted up the spark plug so badly that that the engine stalled.
This week I bought a new diaphragm and gasket and a can of carburettor cleaner and, after watching a few youtube videos, removed the fuel tank and carb assembly, took the carb off, cleaned everything and reassembled it with the new diaphragm and gasket. Then I filled the tank and tried to start the mower. It started FIRST PULL and ran "as sweet as a nut".
I'm dead chuffed - it took less than an hour and cost about a tenner. Much quicker and cheaper than having it serviced! I'll change the oil next week...
