There have always been a few people who think that ultra-rich people and multinationals should pay taxes like the rest of us.

A member of the Democratic Socialists of America unexpectedly won the primary election to become Florida Democrats’ pick for the US Senate, in the latest victory for progressives shaking up the party’s establishment.

Angie Nixon, a Florida state representative, clinched the Democratic nomination early on Wednesday. She beat Alex Vindman, a US Army veteran whom Donald Trump fired from the National Security Council after he testified against the president during congressional impeachment proceedings in 2019.

Nixon’s 12-point win is the latest boost to the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, which has secured primary victories in Minnesota, New York and Colorado as it campaigns on voters’ discontent over the political establishment.

“Together, we went up . . . against millions of dollars . . . We were outspent 16 to one and we won,” Nixon said in her victory speech, as she called for taking on “the rampant corruption in Washington DC”.

“If you’re surprised by tonight’s election results, you haven’t been paying enough attention to what’s happening in the South,” said Britney Whaley, the southeast regional director of the Working Families Party, which backs populist candidates. “Tonight’s election results must be a wake-up call to a political establishment that believes a populist message can’t win in the South. Angie’s campaign proves voters will respond to a bold economic vision that meets their basic needs.” Associated Press

Still, a long shot for the Senate and it'll be interesting to see how her victory can be turned into a significant gain for the Democrat's in November. There's a 'vigorous discussion' onging within the rank-and-file about the direction needed to take on the incumbent GoP in Fla. and nationally come the GE in '28.

Looking ahead to November, polling should be viewed for what it does say rather than what it does not. A recent CNN Poll conducted by SSRS showed that voters preferred Democrats by an 8-point margin heading into the November midterm election. That number is only so helpful, however, since people aren’t voting generally for Republicans or Democrats; they’re voting in a specific race for a specific candidate. House seats in many states have also been gerrymandered to benefit one party or the other, stuffing like-minded voters into certain districts...

...the odds of Democrats taking control of the House has been growing all summer and currently sits at more than 85%, which is a high degree of confidence, but also leaves a lot of room for Republicans. They actually have a better chance of holding the House majority than Crowley had of winning the Democratic primary for governor in Wisconsin, under Kalshi’s odds. It’s important to remember what these numbers mean: People who are placing monetary bets think the safer bet is on Democrats winning. In the Senate, the odds of one party or the other winning control are about even.

Voters will be looking at whether or not Trump has delivered on his promises made when elected.

No more wars.. Not looking good.

Lower prices and inflation.. Not looking good. (could still turn around if Iran is sorted.

Illegal immigration to the USA.. At it's lowest level since 1970. WOW.

I notice in America they want to tax the billionaires rather than millionaires. Still the same excuses are given not to though.

Committed Trumpists don't care.

They are fans, with an emotional investment.

Like football fans who still support Leicester City.

Or the few surviving Brexers.

So you're saying he'll win the mid terms, I wish I was as confident as you.

No, I said that committed Trumpists don't care.

That he's corrupt, incompetent, a convict, a liar, a serial sexual predator who doesn't do the job he's paid for.

Who causes enormous damage to his own country, to his loyal allies, and to the world.

In the same way we have emotional Brexers who boast they don't care how much it damages our country.

Why do you have to bring Leicester City into this?
