Suspended ceiling in bathroom

Hi,

We have a 1.7m x 2.8m upstairs bathroom with an insulated loft above. The bathroom has a vent in the wall (not an extractor fan) and a large window which is always open wide when we're in the bath\shower and is left open a crack (but locked obviously!) of a day.

We're considering having a suspended upvc ceiling installed but am concerned that the small space between the old ceiling and the new upvc ceiling may suffer from condensation or damp. Would appreciate any thoughts anyone has.

If the pvc ceiling was pretty well sealed then you might be OK. You may get problems if the pvc ceiling allows passage of warm moist air into the void, typically around light fittings if they are flush fitted. The issue is once warm moist air gets into the void it will likely condensate out at some point unless it is removed by ventilation.

You could install a complete VCL (thin plastic sheeting)right over the ceiling down the drops, terminating behind the edge of your PVC structure. Easier to do then to completely air seal your new ceiling.
