I have just had a suspended ceiling fitted in my new office premises (well new to me anyway) but I am struggling on deciding which are the most suitable lights. I need to illuminate the middle of the office and have 7 directional lighting sets illuminating the walls (where the displays hang).

The trouble is the ceiling has been fitted in 3 segments. The first segment has clearance of 500mm but the second and third segments have clearances ranging from 75mm - 100mm. The recessed lighting units are circa 88mm and therefore I am struggling to get them in 2 of the ceiling segments.

I assume that as there is a flat above the office I will need to fit fire rated downlighters where I need to illuminate the walls? The ones I have looked at are circa 120mm and reccomend 40mm celarance and therefore is also a struggle.

Any advice you could offer me please??

Thanks

There's various changes out regarding commercial lighting- the eco position and the H&S side for employees regarding levels, position and use of PC screens.

When you say office, is it subject to business rates and has employees ?

When you say suspended ceiling, if this has been hung from the old ceiling then you now have sus ceiling, old ceiling and floor between you and the flat.
I believe the plaster of the old ceiling, if it remains intact is a suitable fire barrier.

Can you clarify 'office' and what fire arrangements are in place (alarms, sprinkler, fire doors, mean of escape etc).

take the downlighters back and get a track lighting system with some nice lights on it..

Yes, its an estate agent office.

As you say the ceiling has been fitted to the existing plaster ceiling which sits on the underside of the joists of the flat above. The old ceiling is completely intact. Does this mean I dont need fire ratedfitings?

Effectively its a retail shop that has bow become an estate agent office. No sprinklers, no fire alarms. 1 Fire door between the front part of the shop and the back. A door coming into the shop at the front and a rear exit into the car park at the rear.

As for task lighting for H and S purposes where can I find some guidelines?

Thanks

Havent bought the lights yet but the head height might be a little resticted for surface mounted lights.

Thanks rocky. I will speak to the suppliers tomorrow and see what they can do.

I think I will go for the 600 by 600 diffusers where I can get them to fit and adjustable none fire rated spotlights where I need to have directrional lighting.

Cant find anything that suggests that I need fire rated downlighters in my installation so normal ones will have to suffice.
