I need to put in a dropped ceiling in a large room to give us some sound insulation from the flat upstairs.

Obviously it's no good suspending the new frame from the existing ceiling, as the sound would travel.

So I'm wondering what size beams I should use to span about 5m.

It'll have the weight of plasterboard - at least 12.5mm - perhaps even double layer! And at least 100mm Rockwool type insulation, which isn't light. And speaking of light, of course any light fittings that may be hung.

Don't want it sagging later. Any advise appreciated.
