tachograph

hi, mk3 granada 1989 2.0i ohc, my tachograph needle shoots right over
and stays there till i switch off,but some times during very heavy rain and
winds it works o-k,i have looked for a earth connection behind clock but
did not find one,checked all earth connections i could find,remove and
cleaned them. anyone got any idea's please?

Take your foot off the throttle pedal

Not exactly sure where it gets its signal from but it may be the coil. Check for any poor connections or damp around there as well.

btw, if googling for any help or such it is called a tachometer. A tachograph is for the time/speed recording device in trucks etc.

hi david julie, thank you for your response, will strip coil area and clean.
of course it is tachometer not tachograph (stupid me)
