Hi Guys, i am going to be decorating the master bedroom soon and with this will see a new ceiling going up and spots being installed. with the work and plastering etc i figured it will be best if my 10 month old carpet and underlay be taken out... Is this a good idea? will i be able to get it back in tight? should i just dust sheet it up, its an expensive carpet and i would hate to damage it.

If it is expensive worth lifting yourself but getting a carpet fitter to re-stretch and lay it again.

It was the best part of £500 so i dont know if thats expensive or not. I have a carpet kicker so i could maybe have a go at it i suppose?

With a stretcher it's fairly simple tuck in one side behind the gripper strip using a bolster chisel, then stretch it across the room and repeat tucking in the edges.

You could ask the suppliers how much they would charge to re-fit it will take a fitter less than an hour, can't be big bucks.

carpet fitters in Cheshire "should" be charging around £2.50m2 with a minimum charge of around £30 -£40 per room. This is usually dependant upon all furniture having been removed of course!

Either contact whomever supplied your carpet and ask for either a quote or the fitters number.

Baring in mind the above quoted figures politely ask for a quote

..........sharply intake your breath (price usually comes down then)

make sure you ask for an all in price

.......simples!

Or
Plastic down first , then hardboard on top (it's only £5 or £6 a sheet) gaffer taped together and carry on.

As ladylola above, well almost. Why not a couple of sheets of h/board (over taped to the skirting plastic) - one to store stuff on, and one to place the steps on.
Use ply or OSB if you are going to have a future use for it.
