Tanking Question...

Hi all

Thinking of buying a property next to a waterway. The present owners say that the basement has been tanked, and there is no visible sign of dampness on the walls. But a strong musty smell.

The basement (open to garden at rear) is a fairly major part of the accommodation.

What do you think?

Worth getting tested by surveyor...or what?

What evidence or builders receipt for the work or photos do they have to show it was tanked?

Apparently receipts for work are available...I just thought that if basement had been tanked properly, there would be no musty smell.

Or am I being over optimistic?

Or do you think it's because property is not in full time occupation?
