I appear to have a problem with the cold water tap in my kitchen. When turned on it spurts as though there is air present somewhere in the pipe

It is fed direct from the mains water, supply could there be a problem with the tap itself, which is a mixer tap?

Any ideas as to how I might rectify this annoying problem?

check the end of the tap there should be a plastic insert try pulling it out or pushing it in a little, apart from that there isnt much you can do its just the design of the tap.some taps have a gauze on the end and this aireates the water to stop it splashing.
