Tap Seizing Up!!

About 4 years ago I fitted a Wicks "Malmo" package deal bathroom. The basin tap is a mono fitting "one handed" type which has behaved perfectly for the 4 years. Recently I have noticed that the actions in all directions are becoming stiffer and is on its way to complete seizure. Does anyone know why this should be happening and is it repairable (I have kept my hands off it for the time being except for WD40). Your advice /suggestions would be appreciated. I had intended to add a photo but don't know how.

Ive dealt with this defect before by stripping the wroks from the tap, cleaning everything and greasing with vaseline, but you can buy 'Plumbers Grease' these days.

Sometimes I can get them working a bit longer by opening and closing the tap with the mission in mind of getting it fully open. Just keep working it back and forwards. When theres high pressure people tend to just open the tap as little as necessary, crud builds up in the threads and the tap siezes. This cheat is always worth a try as a quick fix before stripping the tap down.
