Is it me or are tap washers (normal 1/2" size for a pillar tap) different, eg some slightly thicker and fractional smaller in diameter than others? why is this ... do they all work together or if slightly smaller/thicker will they be insufficient ... ?

tap washers - different sizes for same taps!?

i know there are many different types of washers - but for most pillar taps they are black plastic type washer. also the headgear/tap valve assembly that you can buy from b&q etc for about £1.99 are slightly different even though they are both for 1/2" taps!!! strange ...
