Tap washers of odd dimensions?

Hi there,

I decided to replace the tap washers in my kitchen tap to cure a drip, but they're not 1/2" washers as Id imagined, they look like this:

With a bore of 6mm, OD of 16mm and a thickness of around 3.8mm. I'm not sure whether they were always tophat shaped, or have just deformed?

Has anyone got any idea what they're called?
