Hello,

There is a banging/tapping/knocking noise coming from one section of my Central Heating System (ie. in the pipe between 2 radiators). It seems to only happen when the heating system is active.

Can anyone suggest what might be causing it, and how I can fix it - it is driving me mad !

Thanks,
Patricia.

Hello Oilman,

Of the 16 radiators on the system, approx 1/4 can be controlled with these thermostatic valves.

The two radiators in question do not have them - but I have noticed that this part of the house seems to be an area where (I think) the Central Heating may have been added to or joined for some reason. It seems to have several pipes going to and from both these radiators (looks like a spaghetti junction !)

Anyway - Look forward to a reply.

Regards,
Patricia.

Do you have a gate valve on the pipe near where the noise originates?

Hello again,

I just checked, and there seems to be a device that looks like a gate valve joining 2 pieces of pipe that comes from the top of the radiator and joins onto the pipe at the bottom of the radiator. There isn't any handle on it - but there is a bolt that looks like it could be turned (with a screwdriver). I know a picture speaks a thousand words - but my digital camera is broken ! :(

Any idea whether this is a gate valve ?

Thanks,
Patricia.
