Hi, hope you can help with this..

I've got a gravity fed hot water and central heating system that's making weird noises (ooer).

At the mo. the central heating is turned off and only the hot water left on.

When I turn on the hot tap (not always but often) a vibrating/banging noise begins after a short time and then stops. The noise sounds like a vibrating pipe to me, and is coming from the direction of the hot tank.

If I turn on the cold tap the noise stops immediately, so I'm guessing the noise is coming from the cold input to the water tank (and that opening the cold tap is reducing the pressure)?

I've been in the flat for a few years and this has only started happening in the last few months (and seems to be getting louder).

What do I do next??

Though I hate to sound like an idiot, I'll ask this for the sake of my downstairs neighbour..

"What's the header tank and how do I get to the ballvalve?"

From what I can see, I've got one big insulated tank that holds the hot water, is that what you mean?

Loft = empty.

Is it possible that it's fed direct from the mains?

Yes, very similar.

Was told system is gravity fed, as there is no pump to push water around, only that tank, and a separate pump for the radiators. Sorry if I've called it the wrong thing :(
