Thank you everbody,the topic was not such a big problem but one of those niggledy things that one cannot seem to get right made more so by the fact that the cold tap as always been ok.cheers

I don't understand why the manufacturers don't use square holes as they did in the past ?

Old taps used to have square bits to go in t' square holes! I use thick conical rubber washers underneath which center the tap and grip - no probs any more.
