Tarmac on block paving ?

I hope this question is in the correct section. Mods please move if it isn't.

I am going to tarmac my drive. At the moment it has block paving over 75mm-ish of sharp sand over 100mm-ish of type one. The drive is well used and I have been over it many times working with my 3CX. Can I just put the tarmac on top of the block paving ? I don't really want to tear it all up.

Thanks for that but my impression is that the blocks were laid properly. It was originally an old yard with lots of hardcore down to about 600mm, then the type one and then the sand. It has sunk very slightly where I have trundled about on it with the digger but it still looks O.K.

Well at least as well as block paving ever looks !

Looking out of my window I can see a block paved drive, and beyond that a tarmac pavement and a tarmac road.

I know which I prefer, by a considerable margin.

Well at least as well as block paving ever looks !
