It worth just going on line for just five minutes and entering your tax details you may get a nice surprise.....if so remember to make sure that they have your correct address :)

New refunds are for 2003-2008. You get 0.5% interest. The new errors are for the 2003-08 tax years (last year, HMRC checked 2008-10). There are 6m rebates due (one person may get more than one), plus 0.5% interest. Refunds average £300 per person. Cheques are due between now and 2012

I think you just go to Income Tax and put in your tax code.
My son and daughter in law did it last Friday and they both had a rebate due so they were very smiley :) :)

Do you have to apply for the rebate or is it done automatically, assuming you are due one that is.

I get the impression that you have to ask for it.....but I am not certain.

Edit: Just had a quick look on the web and apparently if you don't ask for it you don't get it

Sadly I know for a fact that I will have to pay tax for my share of rent from our London house. I'm putting it off until December

Maybe just be thankful that you have extra income cantaloup.....lots of people not so fortunate.....I am sure that a good accountant will get you lots of tax breaks.

I'm not knocking it - it's paying for my son's driving lessons and daughter's piano lessons, as well as clearing a few long term debts.

All in all, I wish at times that I was dishonest and hid the cash under the bed. My memory isn't good enough to maintain a lie though.

It's not dishonest to put cash under your bed, but it's immoral and illegal not to pay your fair share of tax- for starters if you cheat everyone else has to pay more and where do you think the money comes from for your hospitals, schools, Police, Armed Forces etc etc?

Mick Hucknall, (Simply Red) when asked why he didn't move to Monaco to avoid tax said that he was "Proud to be a British Taxpayer" so stump up and be proud!
