There is a crack in this ceiling that I’ve spotted after removing some terrible polystyrene coving that has been put up.

Question is is it easer to overboard the existing plasterboard and reskim OR just screw back up and reskim OR should I get my multi tool on the job and bring it down?

Which of the 3 would you suggest?

Is the crack on joist? If not board over and consider board lifter at £30 for days hire.

Sometimes the weight of boards can be a problem if timbers are poor or at wide spacing and I often for an hours work tear it all down.
Fit new plasterboard but add new timber to all plasterboard edges so every board has support Inc around edges. Won't ever crack then.
Dump old board at tip in plasterboard bin.
Also chance to check wires and pipes and renew or fix. Pipe support is a problem I find needs fixing and clipping cables tidy.
Boarding over isn't always best way and you can still get cracks.

If empty room I'd advise replacing plasterboard
