I have a Potterton Suprima 50 gas boiler. Probably a really daft question, but what exactly is the temperature knob for on the front of the boiler. Currently it is set to the mid position. What effect does it have on the boiler if I turn it up or down?

Thanks and apolgies for the probably basic question!

This controls how hot the boiler heats the water up in the system, ie the higher the setting the hotter the rads will feel.

If you have a normal system and HW cylinder, setting it about 3/4 full is about normal.

Cheers. Yes, got a normal system (f&e tank, hw cyl etc).
Is it more efficient to turn it up to full so it will heat the room to the desired temp quicker?

Debateable, most boilers like to run at about 3/4 settings as a rough guide, although the opposite is correct, too low a temp is very inefficient on an old system as the rads will never heat the room so the room stat never turns off.
