Is a Terminal outlet box really required?
My sparky suggested not having one, and given a reasonable length of cable, going straight into the cooker. Since I am having a new cooker, I will not change this for some time. Is having a Terminal outlet box a Electrical regulation? Any suggestions?

don't know if its actually a reg but i would certainly strongly reccomend it for a couple of reasons:

1: if the cables just coming out of the wall depending on how well its held it it could potentially pull out severely damaging the wall and in extreme cases stressing the connections in the cooker control unit
2: sooner or later either you will wan't to move on and take the cooker or the cooker will wan't to be replaced. when this happens a proper outlet box will make life much easier.
