Hello,

This is my first post here, and I would really appreciate some advice.

I currently have a consumer unit located high up in a hallway. The main supply now needs to be brought in from a meter that has been relocated more than 3 metres away.

My proposed solution is to run a 16mm² SWA cable into a metal adaptable box, with cable entry at the bottom left-hand side of the consumer unit, and then terminate it into the isolator. I would also relocate the doorbell transformer.

Would this be considered a suitable approach, or are there better alternatives I should consider? Also what is the best way to seal the cable entry from external to the inside.

Thank you

Why the adaptable box and not run the SWA straight into the CU.

If it's easier you may still use tails rather than SWA

Sealing can be done pretty much with anything such as silicon, putty etc.

Hi

Thanks I will look at this option to, just straight into the CU.

I will earth the gland at the supply end, at the consumer this will just be glanded at the CU

The SWA is coming from the meter box and cable is running externally hence why it is SWA rather then meter tails

Through the cavity, the meter box is on the external wall. The meter/dno cut-out is being moved hence why the SWA

Dare I suggest you could engage a spark, replace the existing box and they could also deal with the sub main?

And why is the meter box being moved?
