Tesco's idea of "healthy eating"

Surely the addition of a sweetener is both unnecessary and unhealthy. :?

In any case it tastes better to me when unsweetened, but mebbee that's because I gave up sugar in 1984.

Quite so, but the food manufacturers add sugar to just about everything (increases shelf life)...even baked beans! So unless you scrutinize every label it is difficult to avoid some sugar intake at least.

I agree that this is usually the case.

That must bode pretty well for your physical condition. I'm sure the NHS would encourage just about everybody to do likewise. The food manufacturers might take a different view, though. Dunno if I really possess a strong enough constitution to contemplate life without chocolate. :)

I don't eat them there beans - I prefer fresh ones, like green, or butter, etc...

Are there people who don't read the labels of what they stick down their gullets?

OK, I give in - I do succumb to chocolate, but it's the exception that proves the rule and I clean it all off soon afterwards.

The thing that motivated me way back when was an article I read that alerted me to the rather obvious fact that sugar is a recently available commodity, and when it was first available it was incredibly expensive and used only as a preservative. It struck me that if it was that hard to harvest then it must be entirely unnatural. And pointless.

I think you'll find that the number of people who get to the 'ingredients section' are in the minority...

most just look at the price label...

Most fruit yogurt/FF's have sugar or AS's in them.

Plus other 5H like modified starch (thickener). YUK!

The most dangerous products have high levels of salt in them, but also have added sugar, so you can't taste the saltiness....

Cereals are the worst offenders here.

Sainsbury's "Precise" has 0.8g salt in a 40g serving....

I do find myself examining the new GDA labels on everything now. This is a great help, it tells you what you need to know, without looking on the back!

Diet pepsi, looking at its GDA label contains . . . practically nothing!
