Hi - I don't have a specific problem but after reading a lot of useful advice in this forum I would like to do some health checks on my electrics. I've got a TT supply (overhead with an Earth rod outside). I've got a DIY multimeter and am reasonably comfortable with general household electrical jobs). Can the forum either advise (or refer me to a good book ?) about the tests that I can do myself - Earth resistance, continuity etc?
Thanks in advance for your help.

its not a diy job, you also require an earth loop impeadance tester and an insulation resitance tester.

Yet the best methodology to find out how safe your installation really is is to follow each cable from your CU and see where & how it is terminated.

I have recently discovered that some of my upstairs lighting circuits were wired in flex and connected with terminal blocks attached to the joists in the loft with no chocbox or any other protection...

None of which of course is detected by any fancy test equipment, but yet potentially dangerous if it starts raining in the loft
