Been out this morning to replace a broken switch... totally smashed/disintegrated by the new sofa delivery!
It's a 2G 2W with both working 2W for hall and stairs. A wierd selection of colours due to previous alterations - total of 17 wires including 3 neutrals & 4 earths.
After replacing I spent ½hour working out and fixing why one light didn't work. There was no continuity between L1 & L2 strappers of the distant switch [fitted as part of the 10 year old building extention] and any of the wires in the replaced switch but com to com was good [yellow to brown].
Customer assured me the 2 switches work as a pair.
Upstairs being decorated, no carpet and a removable board nearly above the damaged switch revealed 4 junction boxes, L1 & L2 went in a different direction to expected so double checking they were dead I used the cable tracer as far as another switch - a DP 20A switch.
"Oh yes that used to be the hall light until we had the extention built but it doesn't do anything now."
