The Bell hotel. Looks like it’s set a precedent.

Swerving nimby.
Nonsense (sigh).

You incorrectly inferred that I would move, if migrants moved into the same street ('road') as me (#125). I corrected you and said that perhaps applied if they were next door and also said that if they moved into the same street, I'd be unlikely to move (#133)..

No swerving. No NIMBY-ism. You need to follow your own posts, before spouting off your big Essex white boy gob.

come on then since you are so terribly clever.............lets see you explain how you think the UK govt has control over people leaving the French coast in small boats
Governments all over the world frequently need to deal with situations caused by something outside their control and not caused by them.

THAT'S MY POINT!!!

Regardless of the cause, they are p1ss poor at dealing with it.

Hey folks, here's another episode of Notch's logic, the year is 2045:

The Russian bombers are just 30 mins away from our airspace now!
Yeah (said in very apathetic tone)
But ... they've said they're going to bomb us!
Yeah
Right, so, we need to prepare to defend!
Nah
Nah? Nah?!? What do you mean? Come on, let's get ready to defend!!!
Listen mate, we've got no control over what the Russian's decide to do.
And?!?
So, let's just wait until the bombers arrive and see how this plays out. I'm away for a nap

So in reality, how would you deal with the issue at hand at the point at which it occurs...

Bearing in mind that we have no real control over the actions that the French may or may not take...

Indeed what little influence we could have had over decision making in Europe disappeared some years ago...

And I see garbage is quoted as saying he will instigate 'mass deportations' without of course any details...

And when specifically asked about whether that included afghans he said "I'm really sorry, but we can't be responsible for everything that happens in the whole of the world"...

The thing is of course we are responsible for those afghans who helped our armed forces during that ill-fated war, and who are now in the main being left to their own fates!

So, just to be clear, it would be okay for you if migrants moved in your street but you would consider moving if migrants moved next door to you? Just a straight yes or no would do.

Already (straight) answered. No swerving or NIMBY-ism from me.

I'm not typing out my strategy all over again, I've done so a few times.

It would work ... if we weren't bound up in laws that prevent us from doing anything constructive on this.

What a complete joke the UK has become, not just on this but in many areas.

We need a leader (not Keir, he's a manager) that inspires, that motivates, that delivers, and that WANTS TO MAKE THE UK GREAT AGAIN!

Being okay with them in your street but not next door to you literally is the meaning of NIMBYism.
Nonsense. As I stated earlier, I'd be the same if disruptive or noisy neighbours moved in, regardless of their flavour.

The literal meaning would be not wanting them in your back yard.
Next door is near enough though. Nobody ACTUALLY has them literally move into their back yard. It’s an accepted phrase.

It wasn't a 'strategy', it was a wish list ;)

And a lot of those laws you decry are to do with basic human rights...

If you want to do away with them, then you have to understand that one day it may be your rights that come under fire...

Who's going to come and help you then?

On that we can agree...

The thing is what you crave would make things even worse!

Do you mean drafting in a nasty little fascist to reinforce your rose tinted glasses?
