Radiators upstairs and down, various additions and moves mean the system has seen a lot of water released and topped up. It's clear and barely smells now. No air in any radiators, checked and rechecked.

The noise is a little worse when cold but still occurs when up to temperature.

Condensate pipe is clear. Boiler is otherwise functioning nominally.

But the noise is irritating...

I know, but how can it be, the air should float to the top of a radiator!

Delighted to say it's resolved.

The cap on the pump auto air release was closed! Opened that with a whoosh.

Now the rads are heating up much faster the pump must have mostly been spinning in air.
