Vaillant Ecomax 835/2E making loud noises HELP

If you must use X400 it has to be left in the system for at least four weeks.

Its unlikely to clean the plate HE although I am not convinced thats your main problem.

I told you that I think the gas settings are wrong. Thats needs a CORGI with a flue gas analyser.

And the X400 is unlikely to do much to clean the main HE either!

The main HE needs sulphonic acid ( sold as DS3 ) but I would say that its use is too specialised for DIY use. Then a final citric acid ( sold as DS40 ) but the same applies about DIY use.

You could put X300 in but its so mild that it will not do much and in any case we dont know if the problem is mainly calcium compounds or just metal oxides.

If I was dealing with the boiler I would start by checking and setting the combustion parameters. Then deal with any sludge issues and if they are bad repeat the combustion setting afterwards.

I have used DS3 with my powerflush machine connected to just the HE to clean these out.

Usually though all it needs is a reverse flush of the HE isolated from the system.

On a combi I usually use the boiler's pump to circulate the chemicals in DHW mode, alternating to CH is there is a built in bypass. I can do that quickly on a repair visit without having to take the boiler apart or use the PF pump.

I drain the boiler and introduce the chemical, usually at the AAV, and then just pressurise a little for treatment.

Of course with an HE with several loops in parallel it can sometime be near impossible to clear a single blocked loop.

I have only had my Vaillant Ecomax 835 for just over 3 years and the inner seal on the heat converter has completely disintegrated. This has buckled the housing for the heat converter and melted several internal plastic tubes for air intakes etc. This will mean that I at the very least have to replace the whole heat converter part or at worse the whole boiler.

This was the top of their range at the time so I am really not impressed. Has anyone else had this issue, and what kind of response have they had from Vaillant when this is clearly a faulty part?

If you had it serviced after the first year by a competent engineer, he would have replaced the seal and you wouldn't have this problem. In Germany they didn't have the crisis like we have, because people get their boilers serviced periodically and generally only by manufacturers service agents who know what to do with the boiler.

Now that Mick has explained the situation to you can you explain why you did not get it serviced?

There is something else too!

If the warrantee card had been sent back then Vaillant would have contacted you about this issue and arranged to change the seals. Why was it not returned?

Wouldn't have happened.

Vaillant only officially recognised the problem on the Ecotecs.

As far as they were concerned the Ecomaxs and Glow Worms were not affected

Strange, as we all know different

Hi Sarah,

Were you ever able to diagnose the fault, i have a Turbomax with exactly the same problem. If you have any advice it would be really appreciated as I have already replaced the diverter valve and secondary heat exchange.

Thanks

Gordon
