Turn off water and drain pipes. 3 nuts .Slacken them. Remove old and fit replacement (new washers too) tighten and turn water back on.
That's about it.

How do I go about draining my type of system? Where do I start, do I shut off the mains supply of water that comes into the house? Do I empty the tank? thanks in advance

thanks, the pipes that connect to the existing blending valve seem to be be full of water ie some are hot and some are cold?

Can you have a look at the valve I have to replace the existing one and tell me if it will do the job....cheers

The blending valve in your pic is still available,so why get a different one?
Take it back and get the same model.Your one may fit but why not get the same one?

From your pic it looks like the blending valve used on the old Gledhill Boilermate 2 and 3. They have a brand name Brawa.Over £100 to buy!
Who made your cylinder? They should know the part number. After that I can't help.If the valve you have is not a direct fit then I suppose it could be adapted to fit but make sure its fitted the correct way round paying attention to the flow direction arrows on the body.
