There was no nail in the cable after all!

Seems every thread I start seems to get locked due to certain members getting abusive.

Anyway, sorted my problem, turns out there is no nail in the cable . I swapped over the tamper cores at both ends, used these on the N and C connection and it still didn't work. Check the volt reading on the N and C when activated and it showed zero. Checked with a working PIR and it was 12V. Swapped over a good PIR for the bad one in the kitchen and it worked. Need to buy a couple of PIR's now.

I tested the N/C points on that one and that showed 0v when activated. I took the good PIR from the dining room and put that in the kitchen. Now, the kitchen works and the dining room doesn't.

Will now need to find like for like sensors. Will probably post a pic in a few days asking for help identifying the PIR when I can't find them.

sorry I`m missing something here - you said originally you had 2 sensors on the same cable that didnt work

and both the kitchen and the living room PIR are not working.

I originally thought that both PIR's were on the same cable, given the unlikely event that 2 separate screws could have hit only the N/C cores on both cables, I presumed that both PIR's shared one cable.

I took advice from everyone who kindly offered it. I am not a sparkie or electrical engineer. I sought advice from this excellent forum and listened to all posts.

Currently trying to source the same ones. There are no names / markings on the current ones, if I can't find them I'll post a couple of pics, see if any of you guys can recognise them.

I've installed over 1000 colts - changed just 3. Top PIR.

They are only expensive when some pompous cowboy comes out and charges you £150 for it.
