My landlord wants to replce my solid fuel system with a Thermaflow High Efficiency Electric Combi Boiler.

Anyone give me feedback on how good these are?

Why, what are you going to do? You can't dictate what you have fitted.

It will be very expensive to run but virtually maintenance free from his perspective.

I am a local authority tenant therefore have some leeway in what they do to the house as they are keen to be customer friendly!

I have no mains gas supply, burn mostly wood (which for me is free).

And, present heating fire and tank is less than 2 years old therefore I have a good cost case from their point of view in keeping it till it NEEDS replaced from a not working point of view!

Also, the Energy Saving Trust have the cost of running the new type of boiler at 7p per kw with gas and wood pellets coming in at 3-4p per kw.

Problem is the council plumbers are having difficult repairing my present Fortic tank, constantly dripping and overheating. This is ongoing on another post.

Best to keep to ONE posting!

For others, this tenant has a habit of going out leaving her wood fire unattended and not surprisingly, as an uncontrolled fire, it causes the system to overheat.

My view is that no open fire should be left unattended !

I will mention a few facts, some I have mentioned before.

The fire, as I have said is what is termed a room heater, enclosed and meant to burn slowly and perpetual 24/7 thru Autumn, Winter till Spring and even summer if I want. We, in this village have been using them for years, maybe down south you are not familiar with them.

I am a tenant, but as I feel lucky to have a local authority house I treat it with respect, and am in no way irresponsible. But yes, I do have a life and sometimes like to leave the house and fire even to work and play!

As expected, the council will only do basic repairs. I go to the expense of minor repairs and adding additional features such as shower, built in ovens, light fittings, doors at my own cost. Therefore, unless I change job I will be in this house for many, many years, I hope.

I am unhappy with the venom of the previous response. Therefore, I will post this and post no more!

Thanks for some of the more helpful replies.
