Thermometer for CH Balancing

I am planning on Balancing my CH System as it is currently not balanced. I have read the FAQ and It seems straight forward.

I am looking to something to measure the temp quickly, but without spending a fortune. Are the following items both suitable to do the job:

Not sure if option 2 will do the job. If anyone could recommend anything that would be appreciated.

Or you could use the back of your hand...

NEITHER of those are suitable.

You need a "K" type thermocouple contact probe or just a loose junction on a wire and a suitable meter.

However, if your've not got that much cash available to spend, I brought a IR device from eBay (similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATD-702-P...=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item231494923c) for about £12 that worked for me.
