Thermostat problem (Drayton Digitstat 3)

The heating in my house for some reason is shooting up to 24-26'C

It usually happens when the timer is on (set at 20'C) or when I override the thermostat, i.e. If it's at say 17 and I up it to 20.

It's only just started happening. Any ideas what could be causing it?

Could we have some more information? What type of system do you have? What happens if you take the temperature down?

Central heating with logic combi Espi 35 boiler.

When I turn the thermostat down it doesn't turn the heating down / off so I'm forced to switch the heating off at the boiler

Sounds like thermostat has had its day then. Have you changed the batteries?
