ok ive moved into a house ive just bought and the boiler is a sealed system with no external thermostat and each radiator in the house has thermostatic valves.

i need to remove one radiator to plaster and paint behind.

if i turn the valve to off will this be off always and wont spring open when im in bed if the temp drops very low

also with one radiator out of action will i have heating in the rest of the house?

Firstly you need to turn off BOTH valves at the rad.
Next get a "decorators cap" and replace the thermostatic valve head with it. This screws down like a manual valve so won't open in cold weather. The caps are manufacturer specific, so get the correct one for your TRV.

thanks mate, i had a feeling that there was no way to fully turn off a thermostatic valve but wasnt too sure

cheers for the help
