Hi,

I have tried to attach this:

With these two plugs:

But ended up with this:

I have a 10 year old flat with very thin plaster walls, probably around 2cm thick then with a 4-5cm gap and then i believe insulation (well it feels like it went poking through with a screwdriver)

What would be the best way to attach this shelf and other fixtures to the wall?
It is driving me crazy, everything I put up eventually falls back down!!![/img]

Anything heavy needs to be fixed into the structure behind the cavity so you need to use much longer rawl plugs/screws.

Sounds like a stud partition wall. You'll either need hollow wall fixings or reposition the shelf so at least one side is screwing into the stud (behind the plasterboard) (and use hollow wall fixings on the other side of the shelf.) ;) ;)

That style of shelf requires a sturdy background due to the amount of leverage it creates against the wall, even if you get a firm fixing it is likely to dent the wall when loaded.
