THIS IS THE END OF GAS BOILERS

Always laugh at these scare stories as in what will you do when the gas runs out.. Well the technology has been about for 25 years to produce the equivalent of natural gas from coal with no need to convert any appliances. Also every story is based on existing gas fields... With new ones coming on stream every year which in most cases are bigger than the ones running out. They might not be in this country but it can be shipped here cheaply in relation to alternatively using electricity .

I think the real problem is burning fossil fuels, and reducing carbon emmissions.

Thats why we are all being forced to install condensing boilers that are sold in diy stores beside 0% efficeint patio heaters 25% effecient DGF`s . Government ministers turning up for CO2 meetings in luxury cars that do a dozen miles to the gallon... Just about every electrical shop in the country having dozens of telle`s running 24/7 . Why not force electrical manufacturers to do away with stand by mode, that would save countless emissions.... But is it really fossil fuels causing all this so called global warming 2000 years ago britain was hot enough to have grape vines all over the south of england and we didn`t have power stations etc. So is it a natural occurence or down to pollution

It's more likely to be slowed down by pollution, since the pollution prevents sunlight reaching the ground.

Correct oilman it is a fact in the weekafter 9/11 when all planes where grounded in the USA the temp actually increased due to lack of pollution allowing more sunlight to reach the ground.

The "global dimming" being referred to was on TV some time ago. From what I remember of the program it is not just water vapour that contirbutes to cooling due to sunlight being reflected but other pollutants too.

The important point is that the program said that the vast majority of scientific opinion thought that global dimming only masks the effects of global warming (or C02 induced climate change) in the short term, meaning that even if you continued polluting with these pollutants that increased light reflected (which themselves have extremely serious human health implications) you could not just happily carry on building up C02. Like putting epoxy to seal a leak on a rusting pipe!

Sadly the above, interpreted incorrectly, provides another nice way for people who wish to feel OK about polluting to do just that.

It is ridiculous that you are forced to use condensing boilers considering all of the other wasteful items/systems that are allowed in houses. Good point about how they are sold next to patio heaters. And you are still allowed to install an electric boiler (those amptect ones) which although almost 100% efficient at point of use, depending on electricity supplier might be 70% efficient or less????

The only way to really tackle the undoubtedly serious problem of global warming would be to make truly radical changes to the way we live - e.g. do without central heating at all and wear proper clothing in winter. But we are all living in a carry on regardless way and it will most likely hit us hard at some point in the future.

i will go one further why not drill rods into the ground 120ft and genarate heat from these to supply heating free.

Someone`s already beat you to it Bob

The site that I am currently at is using the heat generated from deep within the earth to heat a block of `apartments` (underfloor heating) you wanna see the size of the drill bit they`re using  Apparently it`s pretty big in Europe. Hot water is delivered via unvented cylinders. It`s all being carried out by the Poles. ( there`s a surprise).

Global warming, we have'nt seen anything yet. Wait till India and China's population can afford to heat and cool their houses. Bosch air conditioning units going 24/7.

Still that energy efficient bulb I've put in will help! :)

We are destroying the planet, we started hunderds of years ago. One day it will be all over for most humans. Whether it's 3 years, 30 years, or 300 years, doesn't bother me. Titanic, deck chairs...

Not to worry. Bamber's gonna sort it all out. :D
