Hello all,

Looking at possibly making an offer on this house. The sliding door out onto the back garden has a sill at the bottom inside the house which just looks wrong. The same sill type panel is also there as a liner for the door jambs. Can anyone tell me what they;ve done here. Seems a bit bodgey.
Thank you
Dave

Knocked a wall out that had a window. There was a cavity (gap) along floor.
Most use wood to cover the cavity gap. Hardwood and varnish is the most popular to cover cavity.
I removed two courses of bricks on inner wall in floor. Lined with plastic and filled with concrete.
My flooring now goes against patio window.
Guess they use a plastic sill to cover cavity

Thanks, Did you do that after your patio window was in? I'm wondering what the best thing is to do here, I suspect get the sill up and fill the gap with concrete as you did and then plaster the door jambs after removing the panels there to.
Looks like they just went for the cheapest option for making good.

Yeah. I did mine after the patio window was in a few years.
Just adding for interest..
Sometimes when 1960s houses were built there is a cavity at back and front door opening on floor.
They just bridged cavity with some felt and then concreted over, so you often see cracks on the floor by the doors.
I concreted those as well
