Thule Roof Bars

I got some second hand Thule roof bars and brackets, they are the squarish section ones.

The bars feel very tight fit in the brackets when I try to fit them, I can't see any adjustment to make them loose.

Is there a trick to it or should I lube with WD40 and use a small hammer to tap the bars through?

do you mean where the bracket joins the bar to slide to adjust to the right width??

If so, make sure the bit of plastic the pushes into the slot is the right length for your car (ie pull it out 1st, fit the bars then cut it to the right length to go either side of the mounting.

a good lube is always a good idea anyway, its mostly ally, a light oil would be better than WD though.
