I can hear a ticking noise coming from a section of central heating pipe in the wall when the heating is on. The ticking starts at a fast pace then slows down, then starts to speed up again, all very uniformly. Is this just expansion of the pipes or is there something more ominous going on?

Expansion of the pipes.

One leg of my system does it
Still its not a prob, I pretend its the wife talking and ignore it then it goes away.

i had this from a bedroom rad, did not need alarm clock!
Changed the rad - for a modern convector ,and smaller ,also changed pipe run under floor, now silent.
mine is microbore. is the pipe close to joist/fixture , or may be rad problem.
