My central heating pipes keep ticking and I have read on here it is probably due to the pipes rubbing on my joists or other things when the expand and contract.

The solutions seems to be to put something soft between the pipe and the contacting surface, but WHAT? Someone said lagging, but WHAT exactly?

I have used normal loft insulation. Doesn't need to be very thick, just a few millimeters between the pipe and the joist should do it.

i used bits of plastic cut from a milk bottle. worked fine.
