Please can anybody help with a problem in my house.

Long after my central heating has been switched off, I get a regular ticking noise coming from one of my radiators? It happens right through the night (its in my bedroom) and I get a noise every 30secs or so. I understand about noise when heating and cooling but it happens when the radiator is cold at 4am!!!

Also, the pipes creak long after the heating is switched off.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Can't see it can be anything other than expansion and contraction.

The rad should have plastic inserts between the radiator and brackets to stop it creaking. If there aren't any you could try lifting the rad slightly and putting small bits of rubber under the fixings.

If the pipework is tight through any spaces it will creak and also where it is laid on joist etc. It's good practice to use felt lagging where the pipe crosses or passes through joists to prevent unnecessary noise.
