Tile backer over plasterboard bonding

Im planning to over board a plasterboard wall with hardibacker.
The existing wall has only 3 timber studs behind the plasterboard that i can screw into.
In addition to mechanical fixing
Is there an adhesive that i can use to ensure a good bond between the boards?
 
Have you considered a lighter board like Schlüter KERDI BOARD?
 
I had breifly looked into it but at the time thought to go with hardi mostly because ive used it before.

Could go with a regular moisture resistant board and tank everything i guess
