tile bathroom floor

Hi I am going to lay ceramic tiles on the bathroom floor. I have to lay 12mm ply on the floor boards and I was wondering what thickness floor boards are as I don't want to go through the boards and into pipes!when I am screwing down the ply. Any IDEAS? thanks
