Didn't know where to put this post but here goes. I have had my kitchen floor tiles down for less than a year and already I am regretting laying them. They are large tiles with an uneven surface finish that is quite uncomfortable underfoot when wearing slippers or thin soled shoes. This winter has also shown them to be very cold.
Although I am not going to do anything immediately, what are my options for the future? I want something to lay on top of the tiles that is smooth and a bit warmer under foot. I don't want to have to level the surface if at all possible unless it is with some form of floated floor. Would a wooden floor with underlay work in a kitchen? The level differences on and between adjacent tiles tiles is around 2mm max.

i like tiles and have in my kitchen. the ability to mop up is overriding. they are smooth though and can understand your disappointment with the rough type.

technical solution is most probably take-up and start again.

i would apply a thin coat (typ 3mm) of floor leveller containing latex. then would go for laminate (i like the slate tile effect) and foam underlay. use pva glue on the edges when installing to make waterproof.
