I laid the bathroom floor with 600x400 ceramic 8mm thick tiles a few days ago, just got around to cleaning up the tiles ready for grouting and noticed some tiles were lifting slightly, at closer inspection they are completely loose !!!!!! I used this adhesive http://www.wickes.co.uk/Waterproof-Wall-Tile-Adhesive-15L/p/166351

For some irritating reason the adhesive just hasn't gone off in places (this is three days later) the adhesive is a dry but paste-like consistency and the tiles just lift right off - in other areas the tiles are solid .. Have I used the wrong adhesive or what ? **** like this always happens to me, I want to finish the grouting, put in the toilet/sink and move on.. constantly dealing with ****ing annoyances that do nothing but set me back days and days

"Have I used the wrong adhesive"

Maybe the answer is in the name of the product but that doesn't answer the question of the failed adhesive. Sounds like it has "skinned" before you placed the tiles and there aren't enough air gaps (grooves) to permit the adhesive to cure

I think 300x300 is the max for most tub adhesive - it won't go off with the larger tiles.

Should have used cement based (bagged) adhesive - they cure by chemical reaction and cope with the larger format tiles.

On the plus side - it won't take you long to lift and clean the files - do it asap to make it as easy as possible.

Yes, its wall adhesive. on a floor you need to use bagged adhesive, plus for tiles that large you need a cement based adhesive so that it will set.

As you say your on a bathroom floor, if its a wooden one you'll need to overboard it first, then use a bagged, flexi adhesive. Use a decent trade one, instead of the diy shed stuff

K the reason it's happening is on top of the 18mm WBP ply I placed a layer of 6mm ply to pack out to avoid using less grout.. the ply of course has reacted badly and none of the tiles have set in that area. The plys gone springy and useless

Now I know. On my way out the door to buy some 6mm hardibacker, the adhesive worked well in other parts of the room on concrete though, so my fault :/

Even we had got the same problem when we moved to our new home. The building contractor did not fix the tiles in bathroom properly and it was loose. Again we asked him to fix it. I don't remember what exactly that fixing guy used but it is good for tiles. 4 years already completed but no problem
