I am planning on tiling a splashback in my kitchen. At present the surface is plasterboard with a couple of coats of paint on top (no paper). Can I tile straight onto this? I keep reading in DIY books that I have to strip the paint and then use PVA so that the adhesive has something to adhere to.
I am new to this and would like advice on whether I need to do this or if I can just start tiling.

A tile only has to support its own weight. Simply clean the area and then tile over it.
